On the shores of the English Channel on the southern coast of Great Britain is the country's best seaside resort, Brighton. Tourists always flock here to visit the famous Brighton Beach, as well as to explore local attractions. The city is located in the county of East Sussex and is administratively connected to the neighboring city of Hove (in fact, they are considered to be one city called Brighton and Hove).
City `s history Initially, the site of Brighton was the settlement of Brighthelmstone, which at the beginning of the 16th century was attacked by the French and completely burned. A small village called Brighton attracted the attention of the rulers of Great Britain in 1724 after most of the buildings were washed out due to a storm. Residents sought financial assistance from the government, allocated funds and new buildings appeared on the coast. In 1750, the final "discovery" of Brighton as a resort city took place - Dr. R. Russell recommended the healing air of the city to everyone. Then, overnight, Brighton from a provincial city has become a fashionable resort for representatives of high society. Engineer M. Volk, who in 1883 created here one of the first electric railways in the world, became a famous and symbolic person for the city. The remains of those railway lines still interest tourists. In 1968, the history of Brighton University, whose university status was assigned in 1992, begins. Despite being relatively young, the seaside university is in the top 20 universities in the UK. In 1997 there was a merger of the cities of Brighton and Hove, Queen Elizabeth II herself granted the city status to this new city.

Of the city’s religious sites, the Royal Chapel built in 1795, located in the center of Brighton, the Church of St. Bartholomew, nicknamed the “Ark”, built in the 19th century, and the St. Peter’s Church, designed by C. Berry in 1824-1828, are of interest.
